Melbourne bakery fined over amputation

A Melbourne bakery has been fined $40,000 after one of its workers lost three fingertips while trying to clear a blockage in a pastry-filling machine.

Altona North's Pinnacle Bakery and Integrated Ingredients pleaded guilty in Melbourne Magistrates Court on Thursday to failing to provide and maintain safe equipment and failing to provide appropriate instruction and training.

The court heard the supervisor and line manager were not in the factory in December 2015 when the worker cleared the blockage in the machine, which the company knew was faulty.
