Melbourne Airport has opened a brand new luxury shopping precinct in a bid to take on the big international airports.

Under a gilded roof, the improved T2 retail strip features 11 renowned stores such as Tiffany & Co., Max Mara, Burberry and Michael Kors.

There are also some iconic Melbourne eateries muscling-in on gate-space, including Movida and Brunetti.

“One of the last impressions people are going to get when they leave Melbourne is a great food and beverage scene, and that’s here,” Frank Camorra from Movida said.

The re-development, one of the largest since the airport opened in 1970, cost $50 million and has taken three years to complete.

“We needed luxury,” Andrew Gardiner, Melbourne Airport Chief of Retail, told 9NEWS.

Mr Gardiner added that the flashy precinct allowed the airport to stay competitive with other airports across the globe.
