A Melbourne businessman who exploited two Indian workers and sacked one after she complained has to pay more than $200,000 in fines and compensation.

Pradeep Gaur used sham-contracting to under pay two Indian workers who didn't know Australian workplace laws, with one earning less than half the minimum salary.

The Federal Court ordered Mr Gaur's companies Konsulteq and Konsulteq Upskilling & Training Services to pay $160,000 in penalties, while Mr Gaur was fined $35,000 and he had to pay back his employees.
