Melb school billy goat dies after 17 years

A beloved billy goat that lived at a Victorian primary school for 17 years has died.

Carrum Primary School has posted a Facebook picture of Cuddles' final resting place in an orchard near the school, 50km south of Melbourne.

Hundreds of tributes flowed from students past and present after the goat died on July 31.

Trevor Naylor-Jones, now 22, was a student when Cuddles arrived as a nameless kid.

"I remember when he first came to Carrum and we had to name him, RIP Cuddles you'll be missed," Mr Naylor-Jones wrote.

Parent Noeline Dalzell said her children are "devastated" by the loss.

"RIP old fella," she said.

Cuddles has been buried in a grave decorated with flowers and windmills where students can pay their respects.

The school has an environmental centre where students care for animals and learn about sustainability.
