Vic woman charged after removalist shot

A woman has been charged with illegally possessing a gun after a removalist was accidentally shot while working at home in Melbourne.

The man in his 20s was moving furniture at an Essendon home on Tuesday when he found a handgun on top of a wardrobe.

As he took the gun down it discharged, but luckily the bullet passed through the man's hand without hitting any bones.

"They thought it was a cap gun or a toy gun," the injured man's boss, Man with a Van director Tim Bishop, told 3AW.

The removalist will undergo plastic surgery on his damaged little finger.

"In almost 15 years, no one has taken a bullet on the job so we're going to figure out a special award for him," Mr Bishop said.

A 31-year-old Essendon woman will appear at Broadmeadows Magistrates Court on October 19, after being charged with possessing an unregistered firearm and not holding a licence to hold a firearm.
