Melb preschoolers' pet ducks beheaded

Two pet ducks were found beheaded at a Melbourne pre-school, devastating children and staff.

Staff at Stonnington Children's Centre in Windsor made the gruesome discovery on Thursday morning before children arrived for care.

Director Joanne Reid said Agnes and Percy had been a "huge part of the centre" since they were raised from hatchlings two years ago.

"It's just animal cruelty," Reid said.

The children did not see the bodies, but were told their pets had died before a funeral was held.

Staff also gave the four-year-old group a chance to discuss their feelings.

Police and staff are unsure who carried out the killings.
