Melb pedestrians flee as car mounts kerb

Pedestrians were forced to run for their lives as an erratic driver in a stolen car reversed into a police car and mounted the footpath in Melbourne's CBD.

Police say the car was driving erratically through the CBD on Monday night.

When police tried to intercept the car the driver reversed into their car in heavy traffic on Flinders St, mounting the curb and narrowly missing pedestrians who had to jump out of the way.

The car then sped off into the city and was later found abandoned in a city laneway.

No pedestrians were injured and police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.
