MCG drone crash due to interference: ATSB

A drone crash near the MCG during the cricket world cup was likely caused by interference from mobile phones and broadcast equipment, the Australian Transport Safety Bureau says.

The drone was launched to capture footage as the teams entered the MCG on March 29, but it crash landed on a median strip on busy Batman Avenue.

The ATSB report, released in August, found that the drone's operators had not considered the possibility of radio interference causing control issues.

No one was injured in the crash and the operators will review their drone use policies, the ATSB said.
