Masa Vukotic's killer told police 'good chance it was me'

The man who killed Melbourne teenager Masa Vukotic told police "good chance it was me" when asked what he knew about the fatal stabbing.

Sean Christian Price, 31, confronted the 17-year-old in a park near her Doncaster home, forced her into the bushes and produced a large kitchen knife and stabbed her repeatedly.

A post-mortem examination revealed Ms Vukotic sustained 49 injuries in the frenzied March 17 attack.

Two days after the murder, Price presented himself to the Sunshine Corrections office in Melbourne's west, where he was arrested.

When asked if he knew anything about the murder, Price said, "good chance it was me", according to a police summary tendered in court.

Before making himself known to Corrections Victoria, Price had been at the Brimbank library reading press coverage of the killing.

He had spent the previous month at the same library reading-up on serial killers Ivan Milat and Thomas Quick, as policing, crime scene investigation and forensic investigation, court documents show.

In court on Monday, Price became agitated and aggressive after entering his plea.

He admitted guilt in the murder, and a charge of robbery but denies a charge of rape against another female.

Prosecutor Michele Williams told the court Price would plead guilty to the rape charge, but when the time came to formally enter a plea Price said he was not guilty.

"I don't want to plead to it because I didn't do it," Price told the court via video link.

"They're playing games," he said, before launching in a rant.

Price threw abuse at the bar table prompting Magistrates Charles Rozencwajg to warn him he would cut the audio on the video link.

"It's a joke. You're all in it together," Price said.

Ms Vukotic's parents were in court but declined to comment outside.

Ms Vukotic has been described by friends as a "loving, sweet, smart" young woman with a zest for life and a bright future.

The Canterbury Girls Secondary College student loved the colour pink, Japanese-inspired clothing and her pet rabbit.

One friend spoke of her aspiration to become a lawyer, and others spoke of the positive influence she had had on their lives.

Six other charges against Price were dropped.
