Many Goodes booers are racist: Andrews

Many footy fans who boo Adam Goodes are racists and they need to be told to stop, Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews says.

He's disgusted by the shameful treatment handed out to the Swans premiership star and two-time Brownlow medallist at AFL games this season.

"People who are booing Adam Goodes, many of them are nothing more than racists," he told reporters.

"They're booing him because they have no respect for him and no regard for him as an Aboriginal man and that is shameful. I am disgusted by that behaviour."

Mr Andrews wants footy fans to challenge people sitting near them at AFL games who taunt Goodes.

"If the person sitting next to you starts booing Adam Goodes call them out for it, tell them it's not on, it's wrong," he said.

Goodes may not play on the weekend after being booed at games all season.

"I think it'd be a day of great shame if Adam Goodes did not play this weekend," Mr Andrews said.

"I think it would be a great tragedy if his career was ended ... because of this booing."
