Man who punched grandad for asking him to turn down music avoids jail

A Victorian man who punched a grandfather in the head because he asked him to turn down his music has avoided jail.

The sickening attack occurred in March after Bon Williams got off a bus in Dandenong North and confronted the 68-year-old victim, the Herald Sun reports.

Williams put down his cans of bourbon and cola and punched the grandfather who fell on the footpath and smashed his head on the concrete.

He suffered bleeding on the brain, a broken nose and lost several teeth.

Fortunately for the 68-year-old two sisters who were on the bus saw the attack and urged the driver to stop so they could help the victim.

"My first thoughts were to save him and try and help him," 17-year-old Jessica Hocking said.

The teen, who has had nursing and first aid training, said she started performing CPR after noticing that the man's pulse had stopped.

Williams told Dandenong Magistrates Court he was "very sorry for being violent and aggressive".

He avoided jail and was instead given a community corrections order.
