Man who posed as gynaecologist in court

A man who allegedly masqueraded as a gynaecologist and infertility expert despite not being a registered health practitioner will return to a Melbourne court.

Italian-born Raffaele Di Paolo faces five charges relating to allegations that he said he was a gynaecologist, and an obstetrician and "had done IVF and fertility medicine in Italy and Australia" but was not registered.

Prosecutors say he made the claims in circumstances where it would be reasonably believed he was a health specialist when he wasn't.

Di Paolo will face the Melbourne Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.
