Man wanted over attempted taxi driver robbery

A man has stabbed a taxi driver and demanded cash after being dropped off at a home in Melbourne's southeast.

The driver collected the passenger, aged in his 20s, from Greens Road, South Dandenong on Friday about 1.40pm before driving him to a property on Balmain Drive, Carrum Downs.

The passenger pulled out a knife and demanded cash before a scuffle led to the 38-year-old driver suffering a number of stab wounds to the arm, police say.

The attacked fled empty handed.

Police and SES searched nearby homes and water drains for clues and the weapon.

Clothes believed to belong to the offender were found in a man's wheelie bin.

The offender is Caucasian, with a slim build and aged in his early 20s. He was wearing a grey hooded jumper and was unshaven.

The driver was taken to Frankston Hospital and is now recovering at home.
