CCTV to be used in Vic servo murder case

Security camera footage could prove crucial in the case of a cable technician charged with murdering a Melbourne man who was allegedly assaulted at a petrol station and then dumped at a hospital.

A filing hearing for Nuri Balla, from Brooklyn, was held in the Melbourne Magistrates' Court on Thursday in the accused's absence.

He's charged with murdering Aaron Sean Burnett.

Police allege 30-year-old Balla assaulted Mr Burnett in a Kealba petrol station car park on July 3 before the victim was dumped at Werribee Mercy Hospital where he later died.

The court was told CCTV footage will be used as evidence in the case against Balla who wasn't brought up from the police cells for his preliminary hearing on Thursday.

Balla briefly appeared before an out-of-sessions hearing on Wednesday night where he was warned by the bail justice that his behaviour - which included yawning loudly - was "disrespectful" and "flippant".

Police earlier said he was arrested and charged on Wednesday after he was interviewed by homicide squad detectives. He remained "largely mute" when quizzed.

The case was adjourned on Thursday with a committal mention scheduled for December 15.
