Second Vic shooting suspect on the run

A man who suffered a leg wound in an early morning shooting in Melbourne's west is improving after surgery as police hunt one of two men they say were involved.

A 32-year-old Point Cook man was shot once in the leg after an argument between three men at a house in Braybrook about 7.30am on Tuesday.

When police arrived soon after, two uninjured men ran off.

Detective Senior Constable Steven Boskovski said the victim was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a serious condition, where he underwent surgery.

He is now in a stable condition, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Police arrested a 26-year-old Braybrook man near Sunshine police station over the shooting.

He remains in custody but no charges have been laid.

"There is a possibility he is known to police," Det Sen Const Boskovski told reporters when asked why the man was near the police station.

Police are yet to find the second suspect.

The victim has not yet been interviewed because he is under "sedation and possibly getting surgery", Det Steven Boskovski said.

The reason for the shooting has not been established.

"As far as we know, it was a verbal altercation that escalated into a shot being fired," he said.

"It would appear that they were known to each other - that's all we can establish."

Neighbours said they were shaken by the incident at the home, describing it as a trouble spot.

"I have four children you know, little kids. I always keep them inside," one man told reporters at the scene.

Another said: "I'm a bit worried, but the police are in there, so I think it's okay."
