Man in Vic court over police chase

A man who allegedly spent two weeks on the run after ramming police cars, waving a fake gun in Melbourne and throwing cash from his car window has been remanded in custody.

Sean Paul Murphy, 26, appeared in the Melbourne Magistrates' Court on Tuesday charged with 44 offences.

He was arrested on April 15, having allegedly evaded authorities since March 29 after abandoning a vehicle in Melbourne's CBD following a police chase.

Police have previously alleged Murphy waved what appeared to be a hand gun at pedestrians during the police pursuit.

Officers had begun pursuing Murphy's car after he allegedly rammed their vehicles when they tried to arrest him in Flemington over suspected drug trafficking, an earlier hearing was told.

Police used a baton to smash Murphy's windscreen while yelling at him to stop as he allegedly rammed their stationary vehicles.

Murphy was also pepper-sprayed but managed to drive away.

As police pursued Murphy through the CBD, he allegedly threw fistfuls of cash from his window.

Following Murphy's arrest, police allegedly seized syringes and drug trafficking paraphernalia from his car, as well as blood-filled syringes, a black imitation hand gun, $15,800 in cash, heroin, the drug ice, ecstasy pills and jewellery suspected of being stolen.

Murphy is due back in court in May.

The court on Tuesday heard he had some physical injuries, but he told Magistrate Margaret Harding: "I'm fine now".
