Vic man guilty of council worker kill bid

A man has been found guilty of trying to murder two Victorian council workers during a long and bitter feud about sheds on his property.

Jonas Black denied trying to kill South Gippsland Shire Council building surveyors Matthew Patterson and Justin Eades, who were injured on his Turton Creek property in May last year.

He went on trial this month in the Supreme Court sitting in the Latrobe Valley.

Prosecutors argued Black felt persecuted by Mr Patterson and the council over sheds on his property.

Black had been fighting with the council over the sheds since 2013, the matter resulting in a court-ordered demolition order.

Mr Patterson and a colleague had arranged to inspect the sheds on May 25, 2015.

When they arrived, Black attacked them, prosecutor Campbell Thomson told the court in his opening address.

Mr Eades suffered a fractured skull while Mr Patterson received lacerations to his head.

Black was found guilty on Friday of two counts of attempted murder and one count of attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Black was remanded in custody and will next appear in the Supreme Court in Melbourne on August 11 for a plea hearing.
