Man fronts court for Haddara murder

Seven years after Mohammed Haddara was gunned down in a Melbourne driveway, a man has appeared in court charged with his murder.

Mr Haddara, a member of a well-known crime family, was shot dead outside his parents' home in Altona North on the night of June 20, 2009. He was 28.

A 36-year-old man was charged on Thursday with one count of murder.

The Brooklyn man appeared at the Melbourne Magistrates' Court later in the day, where Magistrate Jelena Popovic ordered he return on August 18 for a committal mention.

The accused man cannot be named for legal reasons.

Magistrate Popovic granted a request from his defence counsel that they have access to police audio recordings as part of the prosecution case.

It's not the first time someone has been charged with Mr Haddara's murder.

Ahmed Hablas was tried and acquitted in 2011.

A 67-year-old man, who acts as a legal representative, was arrested and released without charge in relation to Mr Haddara's murder last week when police searched a house in Fairfield.
