Man dead in Vic car crash

A man is dead and a woman is in hospital after a car hit a tree in Melbourne's southeast.

The driver died at the scene when the car crashed on Ferntree Gully Rd in Wheelers Hill at 2.50pm on Saturday.

His passenger has been taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
