Man dead in Melbourne house fire

A man has died at the scene of a Melbourne fire and a 57-year-old woman is in hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Emergency services were called to the Thornbury home about 7am on Wednesday following reports of a person on fire.

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are not yet known, and an arson chemist will attend the scene to determine the cause of the fire, police say.
