Man dead after NSW paper mill explosion

A man is dead and two others are fighting for life after a gas explosion at a paper mill near the NSW-Victorian border.

The explosion occurred at the Norske Skog mill at Ettamogah on Thursday afternoon, with 150 people evacuated from the site and more than a dozen hospitalised.

One man died at Albury Base Hospital after sustaining burns and inhaling gas, while two others remain in a critical condition.

Another 12 people were hospitalised for gas inhalation but were expected to be discharged on Thursday night.

The mill is not expected to release a statement on the incident until Friday morning.

SafeWork NSW said it was investigating the incident.
