Man dead after car hits Melbourne gas main

A man is dead and a woman seriously injured after a car hit a gas main then rolled on to its roof in Melbourne.

The 36-year-old driver lost control of his blue Ford sedan on Stud Road in Wantirna South about 5pm on Sunday and died at the scene.

A 27-year-old woman freed herself from the car and has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Police are searching for witnesses, including the driver of a black Suzuki seen in the area at the time.
