Man critical after car flips into drain

A man is fighting for his life after his car crashed and flipped into a drain in Melbourne.

Firefighters had to cut the man free from the car which was partially submerged in water after the accident at Keysborough about 11pm on Wednesday.

"There was a lot of fear for the safety and welfare of the gentleman that was within the car, so actions had to be swift," CFA Springvale station officer Josey Sensi told ABC.

"They gave him a real chance, it could have been significantly worse."

The man was taken to Monash hospital where is remains in a critical but stable condition.
