Man charged over Melbourne alleged rape

A woman has allegedly been raped on a Melbourne bike path by a man facing other sex charges.

A 22-year-old man was arrested at a Maribyrnong property on Wednesday night and faced court overnight.

He is charged with rape and assault with intent to rape after the alleged attack in South Yarra at 8.25am on Wednesday.

He has also been charged with indecent assault on Melbourne Cup Day and committing an indecent act in front of a child on Wednesday, as well as aggravated burglary over two other incidents.

He was remanded to appear in the Melbourne Magistrates' Court on Thursday.
