A bouncer has been charged and remanded in custody over an assault and stabbing outside a Melbourne nightclub.

The 36-year-old Lalor man, who works at a club on Collins Street, is accused of chasing down and assaulting a man on Thursday night.

The bouncer, who was allegedly one of several security guards involved in the fight, was remanded in an out-of-sessions hearing and will face Melbourne Magistrates Court on Saturday charged with intentionally causing serious injury, robbery and assault-related offences.

The victim, a 24-year-old South Melbourne man, suffered serious injuries in the fracas. One of the bouncers suffered a slash wound.

The assault victim allegedly slashed a bouncer with a knife before being assaulted, police said on Friday.

A second bouncer was also arrested and is in police custody, but no charges have been laid.
