Murder charge for fatal Vic teen king-hit

The man charged with the murder of Melbourne teenager Patrick Cronin "declined to comment" in an interview to police after his arrest.

Diamond Creek man Andrew William Lee, 33, briefly faced an out-of-sessions court hearing at the West Melbourne Police Station on Tuesday night charged with the 19-year-old's murder.

Detective Senior Constable John Midson told the hearing Mr Cronin was "acting as a mediator" but suffered fatal head injuries during the course of the brawl.

Patrick's family made the heartbreaking decision to switch off the 19-year-old's life support on Monday.

The teenager played for the Lower Plenty Football Club with his brother, Lucas, on Saturday before going to the Windy Mile.

He will be remembered with a minute's silence at all Northen Football League Games this weekend.

Det Sen Cons Midson said Lee had been charged with one count of murder after he was arrested and interviewed on Tuesday afternoon.

"During that recorded interview he declined to comment", Det Sen Cons Midson said.

Dressed in a black hoodie and blue jeans and showing little emotion, the accused only spoke to confirm his name, birth date and address during Tuesday night's hearing.

He mostly stared down at his hands during proceedings.

Lee did not apply for bail and was remanded to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
