Man bashed, robbed outside Melbourne gym

A man has been hit in the head with a metal pole and robbed by a gang of men outside a Melbourne gym.

The man was leaving the Glenroy gym around 5.30am on Monday when he was assaulted by four men who stole items from his backpack including his car keys, Victoria Police say.

The men then searched the victim's car before one of them followed a woman leaving the gym, who locked herself in her car and called police.

The men eventually fled.
