Man arrested in Geelong over fatal Mother's Day hit and run

Victorian police have dramatically arrested a man in connection with the death of a cyclist in an alleged hit-and-run on Mother's Day, dragging the accused man kicking and screaming from a court house.

Corio man Gordon Ibbs, 77, was killed after a car hit him as he was cycling on Geelong-Ballan Road in Anakie on May 10.

The vehicle involved allegedly failed to stop at the scene.

A burnt out car was found 60km away in Winchelsea two days later and police believe it was involved in the incident. 

Police today arrested a 26-year-old Whittington man outside the Geelong Magistrates Court over Mr Ibbs' death.

Bradley John Azzopardi was caught on camera struggling with police as they led him away, repeatedly screaming and swearing at police.

"F---ing dogs, do you think you're better than us?" he could be heard yelling at two plain clothed police who handcuffed him and led him from the scene.

"Just settle down, Brad," one officer can be heard saying.

He is assisting police with their inquiries. 

Mr Ibbs' daughter Charlene Christensen made a public appeal for information in July and paid tribute to her late father.

"He was a really beautiful person, a very loving kind man, hard working, and he was just so dedicated to his family, to be killed like that is just horrible," she said.
