Man arrested in Melb over cyber attack

A man has been arrested in suburban Melbourne over a cyber attack on a telecommunications business and a large shopping complex spanning the past five months.

The 34-year-old was arrested at Ringwood on Tuesday and remains in custody being questioned.

"A distributed denial of service attack is an online attack aimed at disrupting website or telephone systems by overwhelming them with traffic," police said in a statement, explaining the alleged offence.
