Man arrested after Melbourne burglary

A man has been arrested after allegedly breaking into a house in Melbourne's north, and fleeing after being sprung by the occupant.

The man, aged in his 40s, allegedly broke into the Hallam house at 3pm on Monday, stealing some items before being confronted by the occupant, police say.

A short scuffle ensued, with the thief fleeing on foot until he was caught with the help of the police air wing, dog squad and local officers.

No one was injured, and the man is being interviewed by police.
