Man and woman drown at beach in Victoria's east

A man and woman have died after they were pulled from the water unresponsive in Victoria's east this afternoon.

Police said the pair, who are yet to be formally identified, were pulled from the surf at Bastion Point in Mallacoota about 3.25pm.

Paramedics attended but the pair died at the scene.

Mallacoota is a popular holiday destination located in East Gippsland, about 515km from Melbourne.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
