Malaysian charged over drug imports in Vic

A Malaysian national is in custody charged with importing two litres of liquid methamphetamine to Melbourne.

Tze Thong Too, 24, was arrested in Fitzroy on Thursday in a joint operation that involved Victoria Police, federal police and Australian Border Force officers.

ABF detected the shipment, which came from Hong Kong and China, and arrested the man in possession of 680g of crystal methamphetamine, police said.

A Fitzroy restaurant and a Melbourne CBD apartment were searched following the man's arrest.

Tze was charged with importation of a commercial quantity of a border controlled drug and was remanded in custody at an out-of-sessions hearing to appear in the Melbourne Magistrates Court at a later date.

A 31-year-old Malaysian national at the apartment was detained because his visa had expired.

He was taken to the Maribyrnong Immigration Detention Centre.
