Logies go, but Rip Curl Pro to stay in Vic

Victoria may have dumped the Logies, but it will continue to ride the wave of the Rip Curl Pro for another five years.

TV's night of nights will move to the Gold Coast from next July after the Victorian government announced on Monday it was cutting funding, saying the event didn't represent value for money.

But on Friday, it was announced Victoria had secured the Rip Curl Pro until at least 2022, under a new deal by the Andrews Government.

The contest at Bells Beach will continue to draw thousands of visitors to the Surf Coast region and boost local business, Tourism and Events Minister John Eren said.

"The Rip Curl Pro is going nowhere - these world-class competitions are right at home in the sporting capital," Mr Eren said.

This year about 30,000 people went to the surf competition, which attracts international surfing stars like Kelly Slater and Aussie favourite Stephanie Gilmore.

The Rip Curl Pro is the longest running surfing contest in the world.
