Light aircraft stolen from Vic flying club

Four light aircraft have been stolen from a flying club west of Melbourne.

The three aerochutes, a Jeep-branded hummerchute, headsets, helmets, parachutes and other equipment were stolen from the Aerochute Flying Club's sea container on Good Friday.

Aerochute International chief executive Stephen Conte told AAP the light aircraft were not common and people needed to be trained to fly them.

"They're not something that can just be put on to eBay or something," he said.

He said the airfield was isolated - in a paddock in the "middle of nowhere" several kilometres from Werribee - and the thieves would have needed tools and equipment to take the aircraft.

The theft has been reported to Victoria Police.

Senior Constable Brendan Tyrrell told the Seven Network there were safety concerns if anyone attempted to fly the aircraft and were not licensed.
