"It was very much the case that Lady April Hamer was a very important part of the leadership that Rupert Hamer provided to Victoria."

Lady Hamer is well known for her fight to save green wedge parkland areas in Melbourne.

Sir Rupert Hamer was Premier of Victoria from 1972 to 1981.

Shadow attorney general John Pesutto said Lady Hamer would be missed.

"Lady Hamer and Sir Rupert Hamer are two Victorians who were very much loved and Victorians will miss them sorely," he told reporters.
