Labor backs GST remoteness assessment fix

Labor has backed a call to change a section of the GST assessment that Western Australians say gives them a raw deal.
At the party's national conference in Melbourne, WA opposition leader Mark McGowan and federal member for Perth Alannah MacTiernan successfully pushed for a commitment to review the way the Commonwealth Grants Commission assesses remoteness.
"The resolution endorsed today will go a long way to ensuring the cost of providing education, health and policing services in regions will be fairly assessed in the future," Ms MacTiernan said.
