Kickboxer fined over brawl that shut down Melbourne court

A kickboxer who was involved in a brawl that forced a Melbourne court complex to be evacuated after capsicum spray was deployed has been fined $2000.

A criminal case involving car theft was being heard when the fight broke out in the public gallery at the Melbourne Magistrates Court in February.

The melee began when kickboxer Sam Abdul Rahim and Omar Bchinnati's verbal clash became physical.

Rahim's girlfriend and father soon joined the brawl as well as a number of other people at the court. The situation was only brought under control when Protective Service Officers used capsicum spray, forcing eight courtrooms to be cleared.

Some of the evacuations were precautionary, taken over concerns that the spray may have spread to the building's air conditioning system.

Abdul Rahim was fined $2000, his father received a $750 fine and his girlfriend was fined $100 for throwing a water bottle.
