Kayaker rescued off Wilsons Promontory

A kayaker has used a waterproof mobile phone to call for help after he capsized off Victoria's Wilsons Promontory.

The man in his 50s was left treading water eight kilometres off the promontory on Tuesday after the stabiliser snapped off his outrigger kayak near Rabbit Island.

He was in the water for an hour before being winched to safety by an Ambulance Victoria helicopter and taken to Latrobe Regional Hospital in a stable condition.
