Passengers aboard a Jetstar flight from Melbourne to Launceston have been returned to the airport after the pilot noticed a problem with the hydraulics mid-air.

A Jetstar spokesman said the pilot on the A320 noticed an issue and decided to return to Melbourne Airport to the operator's main engineering facility for inspection and repairs.

The flight landed safely in line with normal landing procedures, with passengers to board another flight to Tasmania later this morning.
