More than 100 roosters, hens and chicks have been removed from two Victorian properties following an investigation into illegal cockfighting.

RSPCA inspectors, with the help of police and Brimbank local council, raided the properties in Melbourne's west on Wednesday, finding half the birds had been mutilated and trained to fight each other wearing spurs.

"We're saddened to report that cockfighting is still happening in the community," RSPCA Victoria's Lisa Calleja said on Friday.

"Cockfighting is not a sport - it is barbaric and highly illegal.

"Those participating will be held accountable."
