Hunt for hit-run driver who hurt Vic nurse

The hunt continues for a "heartless" driver who badly injured a newly-wed nurse in a hit-and-run collision outside a Melbourne hospital.

Shanne Doktor-Naron, 29, was walking to her car after her shift at Sunshine Hospital on Monday night when she was struck on a pedestrian crossing by a utility.

She suffered serious injuries, including a broken arm, and is recovering in Royal Melbourne Hospital.

The dark-coloured vehicle drove off without slowing and police are calling for witnesses as they hunt the driver.

"It's a cowardly act," Senior Constable Debra McFarlane said on Tuesday.

The injured woman's husband, Justin Naron, was stunned by the news of the crash.

"I just felt scared at first. We've just been married for five months," an emotional Mr Naron told Nine News.

"I plead for the public's help to find this heartless person."

Witnesses said the car appeared to be travelling at the speed limit, but police say it may have ran a red light.

Officers are scouring the streets for the driver and the vehicle, which they believe is a black or dark-coloured ute with damage to its left front.

They are urging the driver to come forward and calling for witnesses or anyone with dash-cam footage of the incident to speak to police.
