Energy relief promised for Vic customers

Thousands of Victorian homes were again without power on a hot day with the premier promising there would be relief for customers.

More than 4500 homes across suburban Melbourne lost power on Wednesday when 38C was recorded.

"I met with the distribution companies on Monday with the energy minister and we made it clear to them about our expectations for compensating households and businesses who have been without power," Premier Daniel Andrews said on Thursday.

In parliament he said support for customers would be coming and that there would be an announcement shortly.

"We will be sure to keep the pressure on them to make sure they are fair on their customers particularly those who did not receive the electricity they so handsomely paid for," the premier added.

Earlier on Thursday Mr Andrews said there was no supply issue but there were localised faults in the network.

Liberal opposition spokesman for energy David Southwick attacked the premier and his government for failing to secure energy supply for the state.

"Victorians are paying more than ever for power, yet we seem to have more unreliable power and Daniel Andrews has no plan to fix this problem," Mr Southwick said.

People in the state should not have to second guess whether they would have power on hot days, he added.

In late January almost 50,000 Victorian properties were without power at the same time as temperatures hit the high 30Cs.
