Hail, minor flooding as storm hits Vic

A storm in Victoria's northwest has brought down trees and damaged roofs, with the State Emergency Service receiving more than 100 calls for help.

The Mildura area was the hardest hit, but there were no major emergencies.

"We've got 20 outstanding calls in Mildura and we've had 40 all up there throughout the day," SES spokesman Stefan Delatovic said.

"We've had 120 calls all up across the state since the winds picked up."

Mr Delatovic said requests were mostly for fallen trees and minor roof damage.

"There has been nothing serious, thankfully," he said.

However, SES volunteers are on alert in case the storm causes further damage as it rolls across the state.

Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Dean Stewart said there had been reports of marble-sized hail near Mildura, with many lightning strikes in the state's northwest.

"At the moment the most active area is pushing up into the northeast. It's still fairly active up east," he said.

"There has been a little bit of thunderstorm activity in the Melbourne area.

"But we're not expecting it to be severe in the Melbourne area."

A severe storm warning is still in place for much of Victoria.
