The estranged father of controversial Greater Western Sydney player Toby Greene has been remanded after allegedly headbutting a policewoman at the AFL grand final.

Michael Greene appeared in Melbourne Magistrates Court on Sunday charged with intentionally cause injury, resist police and assault police.

The 60-year-old was also charged with public drunkenness and committing an indictable offence while on bail.

In court he was dressed in a blue shirt over what appeared to be a bright orange top, the same colour as GWS merchandise.

Greene sat in the dock with his arms crossed during the brief hearing.

The court was told Greene needed Valium and suboxone, which is used to treat opioid addiction, while he was in custody,

Greene did not apply for bail and was remanded to appear at the Ringwood Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
