Vic bus crash killer 'incredibly sorry'

A Victorian man who crashed a car into a minibus, killing two elderly women and injuring others told police he was incredibly sorry after they arrested him.

Michael Patrick Trueman, 23, appeared in court via video link on Thursday where he pleaded guilty to a string of driving offences over the collision that claimed two lives and left nine people with injuries.

He gave a no comment police interview in August, saying only he was sorry and didn't think he should have been let out of hospital, according to police documents tendered in court.

"I'm just so incredibly sorry," he said, when police told him he had been charged with two counts of culpable driving causing death.

Both charges were admitted on Thursday.

Trueman was driving a white commodore when it hit a minibus carrying residents of an aged care home in Rosebud on August 12.

Katharina Nensteil, 88, died at the scene and Betty May Fox, 91, died in hospital.

Witnesses heard an engine roaring and saw a car moving sharply from the left lane to the right, getting faster and faster before the crash, court documents show.

"I actually said to myself, `what is this dickhead doing?'" Penny Di Santo said in a witness statement.

Ronald Thomas Formosa said in his statement he heard "really loud revving" before he saw a white car lose control.

He said the driver who caused the crash told him he was on his way to his brother's grave because it was his birthday.

Mr Formosa said the driver was "scabby looking".

"He had tattoos and sores all over him."

Trueman also pleaded guilty to negligent driving causing serious injury, driving while disqualified and one count of possessing methylamphetamine.

He will return to court on March 11, 2016.
