Man dead, boy fighting for life after crash east of Melbourne

A man has died and six-year-old boy is in a critical condition after a horror crash in Victoria's south-east.

Seven people across two utes and an SUV were involved in the collision at the intersection of Traralgon-Maffra and Farmers Roads in Glengarry in Gippsland, two hours east of Melbourne, about 3.50pm.

One of the utes flipped and the driver, a 35-year-old man from Glengarry, died at the scene.

Police said the six-year-old, who was in the same vehicle, was airlifted to the Royal Children's Hospital in a critical condition.

Another man, a 22-year-old from Traralgon, was taken to the local hospital with minor injuries.

The four people in the third vehicle were not injured.

The Major Collision Investigation Unit is investigating the crash.

This year 32 people have died on Victorian roads, 10 more than this time last year.
