Geelong man gets three years for teen sex

A Geelong man who had sex with two girls in their early teens has been ordered to provide a DNA sample to help in any future investigations.

Corio's Kristopher Howard pleaded guilty to 10 child sex charges, and was sentenced on Wednesday to three years in prison, with an 18-month non-parole period.

The 24-year-old could be out in as little as eight months with time served, despite admitting the sexual contact with two girls in their early teens between 2014 and 2016.

Judge Michael Bourke said Howard had "consensual sex" with the girls, but the criminality was due to their age and inability to properly consent.

"This was serious offending committed against vulnerable young persons," Judge Bourke said on Wednesday.

He ordered Howard to provide a DNA sample as it "can assist in these types of investigations".

Howard is already on the sex offenders register for life after a similar conviction in 2013.

One of the girls said she knew it was wrong but she felt pressure to keep it secret.

When Howard had sex with the other girl, he told her: "don't tell anyone".

Judge Bourke said Howard had a mild intellectual disability and a tough upbringing.

"I feel, I think, legitimate sympathy for your life's situation," he told Howard.
