Geelong gang-rape bail decision delayed

A man accused of leading a gang-rape on a 14-year-old girl in Geelong wants bail to take up a job offer but has to wait a week to find out if he will be released.

Kevin Andrew Wild, 29, is one of four brothers accused of attacking the girl on November 1, 2015, after a family reunion.

He made his first application for bail in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

His brother and co-accused Allan Mark Wild was denied bail in November.

Other brothers Rowan Gavin Wild, 27, of Geelong, and Queenslander Brodie Mark Wild, 20, have been granted bail.

During the hearing on Tuesday, Wild's barrister Michael O'Connell told the court his client was a carpenter and cabinetmaker whose business had ceased since he was charged, but has received a letter of offer for work.

Arguing against bail, Detective Sergeant Brendan Butland said he assumed the letter was old because it only referenced two charges and Wild was now facing 14.

Outside court, Sgt Butland said extra charges were laid in December.

Police allege the Wilds found the girl with a male friend at a park near a party in the early hours of November 1.

It is alleged she was taken away by the group and sexually assaulted several times before being dropped back to the park.

However, Mr O'Connell said the teenager had told police her memory of the night was patchy.

He said several witnesses from the party she had been at before the park recalled her acting drunk, having sexual encounters with other teenagers and that behaviour needed to be considered.

According to court documents released after the hearing, police interviewed several people who saw Kevin Wild and his brother Allan at a house the next day.

The documents allege Allan Wild commented about having a threesome with his brother, and a witness told police that Kevin joked about buying the girl some Dora the Explorer underwear next time.

The matter has been adjourned until February 23, allowing time for Wild to be assessed for his alcohol use.
