Gas bottle ruins Vic man's AFL weekend BBQ

Long weekend BBQ plans for one Melbourne man have gone up in smoke after his garage caught fire when a leaking gas bottle exploded.

He ended up in hospital with burns to his face and hands after the fire at a St Kilda East property about 2pm on Wednesday.

Fire investigators believe he purchased the gas bottle to use during the three-day break and had stored it in the boot of his car.

The incident prompted a warning to people check their gas bottle connections before throwing a snag on the barbie this AFL grand final long weekend.
