From little things big things grow in Vic
Victoria's Yarra Valley is synonymous with wineries, vineyards, cheese and weddings, so it's surprising the next "big thing" to hit the area will be a giant brussels sprout.
Following in the footsteps of the Big Banana and the Big Pineapple, a four-metre-high brussels sprout is set to be unveiled next month.
Big Sprout Festival organiser Narelle Adams said while the idea was out of left field, local businesses and residents had gotten behind it.
The idea came after her parents came home after seeing the Big Strawberry in the northern Victorian town of Koonoomoo.
"Dad said we should do something like that, and it went on from there," Ms Adams told AAP.
"And the brussels sprout was an obvious choice; our family has grown sprouts in the area for 60 years."
The Big Sprout will be unveiled at Adams Farms in Coldstream, on April 12.
